How parlays work
A parlay combines two or more individual bets ("legs") into one. To collect, every leg must win — if any single leg loses, the entire parlay loses. In exchange for the higher risk, the sportsbook multiplies the odds together to produce a much larger payout.
Quick example
Three legs at -110, +150, and +200 in American odds convert to 1.909, 2.500, and 3.000 in decimal. Multiplied together: 1.909 × 2.500 × 3.000 = 14.32. A $20 stake on that parlay returns $286.36 if all three hit ($266.36 profit). Implied probability: about 7% — high reward, low likelihood.
Tips
- Smaller parlays (2-3 legs) typically have better expected value than 8+ leg longshots.
- Same-game parlays often have correlated legs that the sportsbook adjusts for — payouts will be lower than a true multi-game parlay.
- Cash-out offers shown by sportsbooks during live play are always less than the true expected value. Calculate before accepting.
